Toddler Jacket Pocket Tutorial

Remember my Corduroy Jacket Post from yesterday?  Well, as I was figuring out how to share about it, I decided to split the project into three days, so it wasn't such a long post.  Today, I am going to show you how I made the pockets.

I cut out the pants pockets and drew a line where I wanted to cut them off.  I also stitched down the far side to make the pocket smaller.

Then I cut strips 1" thick to make a nice border for the pockets.  It was a little tricky finding scraps that were  all on the same grain, because I was literally working with scraps here.  You will see what I mean when I post the remnants of the pants tomorrow.

I ironed down each side 1/4" to finish the edges.

After cutting slits in the fabric where I wanted the pockets, I machine-stitched the pocket in as best I could, and then hand-stitched the pocket liner on the side closest to the pocket so I didn't sew the pocket shut.

Then, I pinned the pocket out of the way and machine-stitched the other side.

After completing the top and bottom liner, I sewed a smaller piece to the sides.  I repeated a similar process to finish the edges.  I was able to machine-stitch this whole piece on.  I made sure to pin the pocket out of the way.

And here is the finished pocket!  Update: Check out the post about the finished jacket here.

Toddler Jacket...from Pants!

This is a jacket I made for Isaac.  I made it using a pair of corduroy pants.  Yep, pants.  After Christmas, I started going through all of my craft things and wanted to get rid of some things because things would fall on my when I opened the craft closet.  Yep, it was THAT bad.  Ha ha.  I pulled out this pair of pants:

They are size 7 boys corduroy pants (from Old Navy).  They still had the tag on them.  I actually got them from my mom's "going-to-the-thrift-store" pile.  They were some that my brother didn't like.  I snatched them up, planning on saving them until they could fit Isaac.   But, not wanting to have a bunch of items waiting around in my craft closet, I decided to make a little jacket out of them.  I bought some flannel fabric at Joann's and some thread (and used a coupon for both).  All I spent on this jacket was $7.

I used this jacket to make a pattern.

I used some scrapbook paper to create a pattern for the jacket.  After cutting the pieces out, I had arms, front and back.  I cut out the collar later using a button-up shirt for the pattern.

Come back Wednesday and I will show you how I made the pockets, and what I used to make them!  Then, on Thursday, I will show you some more pictures of the finished jacket as well as the leftover pants - there is not much left over!

Check out my party page to see where I might be linking up!

Paper Sack & Doily Gift Wrap

I love wrapping with paper lunch sacks.  I love the look and it is fun because you can dress it up any way you want.  This is a gift I gave to my sister for her birthday (doily shirt inside).  All I did was fold down the top, add a doily, and punch a couple of holes.  I tied a bow with some jute twine and added "K" - a scrapbook embellishment I had.  It is amazing what a few simple things can do!

Doily Shirt {Gift}

Remember the doily shirt I made last summer?  I decided to make one for my sister for her birthday.  I love the doilies that I found.  It was super simple and quick.  It makes me want to make another one for myself using this print.

Note: As mentioned in my previous doily shirt post, I found the tutorial for this at Maybe Matilda.

Happy Valentines Day!

Hope everyone has a great day today!  I made heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast today that were delish!

As I was taking this picture, my little guy said, "Hey, that's my pancake."  He was pretty anxious to eat it.

I have been working on updating all the pictures on my posts.  I had to get a new email address and switch that email to my blog account.  Someone hacked into my other account.  As a result of deleting my old email, all the pictures were blacked out.  It has been a big pain, but I am slowly getting all of the pictures back.  And FYI, you can still contact me at mylilpumpkinpatch {at} gmail {dot} com.

Also, a reminder, I have a Shabby Apple giveaway going on that closes on Thursday, so if you haven't entered, go here.

Guest Posting Today

I was invited to write a guest post for a blog called Craft Corners.  I was thrilled to share a jacket that I upcycled from some corduroy pants.  So, today, you can find me over at Craft Corners sharing my jacket upcycle!

In the near future, I will be sharing a full tutorial of how I made the jacket!  But for now, you will have to head over to my guest post to see my work!

February First

I have another project that I am so excited to share with you, but I haven't taken a picture yet.  I will probably get a picture later today after I have showered and look a little more presentable than a freshly worked out crazy-haired gal.  It is a project that one of my Facebook friends pinned a few weeks ago and I decided to give it a try.

Also, I just have to say, as I may have said before, I absolutely love going to IKEA!  My mom and I took a day trip there yesterday and it was so much fun!  It was her first time going there.  I got some inspiration for decorating.  My little guy was a trooper and rode in the car really well, but he wanted to run around all over the store.  Thank goodness for leashes, carts, and Curious George (Netflix on my phone)...we made it!

I am really excited that it is February now, and I am planning on figuring out a few Valentine's crafts!
