Kitchen Mini Makeover ~ Paint
One weekend I decided I needed something fun to do. Actually, back up...a couple of years ago, we bought our first house. The window in the kitchen looks like this, with the original red paint. I like red paint, but these shelves needed some love. The top shelves usually sit empty except for major holidays (mostly Christmas), or they have something weird sitting on them. I have had a really hard time coming up with a way I wanted to decorate them. Well, I was so sick of how boring it looked and decided this was the something fun I needed to do.
I have been planning on doing my kitchen red and teal for about a year now, and just haven't really done anything to add some teal. So, let's meet the teal...
Well, the first coat at least...
I was a tad bit worried after the first coat I must say. I was really hoping I didn't just make a big ugly mistake.
Once all the red was covered up though, I knew I loved it! It is so bright and fresh. I used to sort of hate...not entirely hate...the "fancy" woodwork bordering the whole shelf/window. After the paint, I love it. And I like it even more now that things are completed!
Come back tomorrow for the Stache Party, and then on Wednesday, I will be sharing a topiary I made!

$10 Mirror Makeover
I got to meet some wonderful people the beginning of September. My husband met them on his LDS mission. They are the coolest and now my best friends! While they were staying with us, we went to a thrift-like store. It is a store full of new distressed furniture, estate sale furniture, and lots of other junk. The prices are usually high, but every once in a while, you can find something for a good deal. Well, I saw this mirror for $10, but walked right on by. I didn't see the potential, but thank goodness, our friend did.
I decided to paint it white. I first primed it with Krylon's primer and then painted it in white (Krylon Satin White). I won't bore you with a step-by-step, since it's pretty obvious. After lots of coats, I distressed it with an electric sander. I sprayed a couple of clear protective coats to seal it.
Here she is in all her beauty:

I realize this isn't the best picture, but I was sewing and the living room was a mess! Also, I was still in my pjs. I will try to get a better picture today! Here's some details. I absolutely love the top design!

What would you do with a door knob?
I love old door knobs! Well, any fancy door knob I really like. I love seeing them in different places than on a door. My husband and I went four-wheeling this weekend around some old mines. We had a friend with us who is more adventurous than us that wanted to explore. There were a lot of old buildings filled with machinery and "treasures," it was so fun to look at all the old stuff. There were even old door knobs! Check out my door knob pinterest finds this week!
I love the variety. I don't think these are actual door knobs, but they are knobs, nonetheless. They can be found here.
I love this picture! It is so artistic and all the different knobs are fun to look at! Found here.
What a great idea! Use a door knob to hold curtains back! This can be found here.
This is my favorite! Pumpkins from doorknobs! I love pumpkins! Found here.

Home Decor Ideas
This past week, we had some friends visiting (and we had a BLAST!). I got some decorating ideas for a blank wall that I have been wondering what to put on it. (The wall is a bit awkward with thermostat on it and a vent). I have some plates and a thrifted mirror that I will be using. I am extremely excited!
I thought I would share with you some great finds for home decor I found on Pinterest this week. (Click on image for the source).

Fun Fall Finds
I created my first boards on Pinterest today. What a fun place to hang out! I found a lot of great inspiring Fall Decor items, which I will be making and sharing very soon! I am going to share a few of my favorites:
I love 2X4 projects. They are so inexpensive and so cute! I love the worn look.

Isn't this wreath gorgeous! It is found here.
Wouldn't it be fun to have a paper wedding bouquet? It would last forever!
I am thinking of all the fun things I could do with a DIY pumpkin garland!

Zoo Animal Pattern
As promised yesterday, here are the patterns for the Lion, Giraffe, and Alligator. Just click on the name, and it will take you to a link. From there, right click on the image and "Save As" to your computer. Then you can print it after inserting it into a word document or print from your photo viewer. Feel free to use them for personal use.
I used a die cut tool to cut out the words, and I also distressed the edges with dark brown ink. Mine are in 10X10 frames, and that is what the pattern in scaled to. However, you can blow them up or shrink them to whatever size you want!

Animal-Themed Room {Part 1}
Before my son was born, I worked in the scrapbooking department of a craft store. I got to see lots of fun scrapbooking and craft ideas while I was there. My good friend that worked there gave me a picture of some really cute wall-hangings for boys. I fell in love, and that was my inspiration for my son's room. I created a pattern using the picture. (Free pattern coming tomorrow!) Here is how it all turned out:

A Window From My Past
I went to a home show two years ago and that is where my inspiration came from! My parents are replacing old windows, so I got this one for free! All I did was clean the window and spray-painted it white. I found the berry wreath at my local craft store one sale. (I had been wanting one of these for a while). I pounded a nail in the top and hung the wreath with a piece of wire.
Here it is on my wall. Love it!
I realize the wreath could use a little help! These are a pain to get right...geez. I would like to add some vinyl to the window, but just can't decide what to use. Any ideas? Also, I thought it would be awesome to sand the edges to give it a shabby look. What do you think?
This week, I am partying over at a variety of places. Check out my new "blog parties" page for some sweeeet ideas and to see where I party!
