Penguin Birthday Cake

This year for the little man's birthday, I decided to make a cake using fondant.  He had really been into penguins, and has this cute little stuffed animal penguin that he carried around with him when we went places.  (I say had, because his new favorite thing is cars, trucks, and trailers.)

I looked around online for pictures of penguins that I thought would make a cute cake, and found some that I liked.  I ended up drawing my own pattern, using the pictures I saw for inspiration.  I don't have any pictures of the process, but here is the finished cake!

I used a chocolate cake recipe and made cream cheese chocolate frosting for the two-layer filling, and also as "glue."  Cream cheese chocolate frosting is my new favorite!  I, of course, used fondant for the top layer.  My fingers were all purple for a couple of days from the black food  coloring!

I enjoy watching Cake Boss, and my husband says I should try to make a cake like Buddy's.  I think it would be lots a fun.  (I'm nowhere near as good as him...but it would be fun to try!)  I just have to think of an idea!  Any suggestions?  If I do this, I will post a tutorial of the whole process!

Adorable Cake... gorgeous Pom Pom Necklace.
I hate that the black coloring leaves such a residue. After I did a Pinkalicious Party, my fingers were fuschia all weekend:)

Just wanted to let you know that I posted about the Stache Party today.

Wow, you really did a wonderful job with cake dear. My son also loves penguins and for his 6th birthday he wants a penguin themed party. Right now I am wondering around for LA venues to get a perfect one. After finalizing the venue I will try your cake idea.
